The condenser should be clean and all dirt and dust removed. The evaporator in the refrigerated body should not take in packaging material. Either will impair the function and reduce the capacity of the FRIGOBLOCK refrigeration machine. Check the body regularly for leaks and damage. Damage to the body insulation reduces the refrigeration capacity, extends the on-time of the FRIGOBLOCK refrigeration machine and consumes more energy

To hold over the temperature during delivery service, make sure that the body is pre-cooled and that goods at different temperature are transported in separate sections of the body. Turn off the refrigeration machine while the truck is being loaded. Load the picked goods in the order of unloading. Check the goods for correct temperature immediately before loading and set the target temperature of the goods at the thermostat. The capacity of the refrigeration machine is designed in such a way that the required temperature of the goods can be held. It must be possible to maintain a flow of air around the goods in the refrigerated body. The air can return to the evaporator if the goods are packed properly on pallets and roll-cages (e.g., these should not be film-wrapped to the floor). Maintain a sufficiently large distance between the goods and bulkhead, roof and floor. Do not load higher than permitted. Do not obstruct the return air flow to the evaporator by wrong placement of objects such as empties or cardboard boxes. The air flow inside the body must avoid short-circuiting the discharged air and the air taken in by the refrigeration machine. The air inside the refrigerated body is the medium for the transport of heat. A constant temperature and therefore the quality of the transported goods can only be maintained if the air flow is optimum. Observe the instructions for lashing the goods. Do not load higher than permitted. Telescopic locking bars must not be supported under the flat evaporators.

Check the temperature in the body regularly. If the door is opened frequently, warm air enters the refrigerated body. Deliver the goods to the customers in the sequence loaded. The cold air curtain must be closed completely when you pick orders and leave the refrigerated body. The curtain of cold air minimises the air exchange with the environment, holds the temperature in the refrigerated body more constant and avoids loss of heat. Do not open the door unless it is necessary.

Empties constitute an additional heat load and should therefore not be transported together with refrigerated or chilled goods. The frequency of opening the door and/or the condition of the goods impacts the moisture level inside the refrigerated body. This causes icing up of the evaporator surface and impairs the capacity of the FRIGOBLOCK refrigeration machine. Defrost when you find ice.

Clean the body and remove all lose packaging material. Heat the body to full temperature at least once a week. Detailed instructions for defrosting and heating are contained in the operating instructions of the refrigeration machine .

The EU Regulation 517/2014 on certain fluorinated greenhouse gases, coming into force on 01.01.2015, will replace the existing F-Gas Regulation 842/2006.

The new Regulation still obliges operators of mobile refrigeration systems:

  • to make a yearly leak test of all refrigeration machines,

  • to retain the evidence (test protocol) on the executed leak test for a period of 5 years and submit it to the supervisory authority on the latter’s request

All FRIGOBLOCK refrigeration machines must be inspected for leaks once every year. The leak test of the refrigeration machine has always been a standard item on the FRIGOBLOCK maintenance list. The obligation to document the inspection is new. The test report will be issued by all authorized service stations as part of the annual maintenance of the machine and issued to the owner.

Relevant Regulations

REGULATION EC No.: 842/2006,

replaced by REGULATION EC No.: 517/2014 on certain fluorinated greenhouse gases

REGULATION EC No.: 303/2008

According to the Lebensmittelhygieneverordnung (Food Hygiene Regulation - LMHV), every company manufacturing, processing or marketing foodstuffs is obliged to define, monitor and document all critical steps responsible for the safety of the food and to take suitable safety measures. For example, according to the LMHV the owner of the refrigeration machine is responsible for cleaning and disinfecting the body of the truck regularly according to DIN10516.

The air in the refrigerated body circulates when the refrigeration machine is turned on. Air is taken in by the fan and discharged by the evaporator. During this process, dirt and bacteria in the air deposit on the surface of the evaporator and the body.

These contaminations can only be removed by thorough cleaning.
Regular cleaning must be documented.

Installed and operating temperature recorders approved according to norm DIN EN12830 and the TLMV* must be inspected as prescribed by DIN EN 13486 every year. The owner is responsible for performing the inspection. The test certificate should remain on board the truck

*TLMV = German Regulation concerning deep-frozen foodstuffs

Simple handling and minimum maintenance are typical features of all FRIGOBLOCK refrigeration machines. However, some maintenance cannot be avoided. The proper, smooth and safe operation of the refrigeration machine, including all components, depends on professional and regular maintenance and repair. Maintenance and repair must only be performed by FRIGOBLOCK authorized service partners.

Proof of regular maintenance may be a precondition for warranty claims, guarantee or goodwill. The prescribed maintenance intervals should be observed also after the end of the warranty period because this conserves the value of your FRIGOBLOCK refrigeration machine. Make sure that only original FRIGOBLOCK parts are used for repairs. Only original parts warrant highest quality standards that give you the reassurance of a reliable and long-lived FRIGOBLOCK refrigeration machine.

Our maintenance intervals are based on standard conditions of service. More frequent or more extensive maintenance may be necessary depending on the type of machine and differences in service conditions. Conditions during different seasons of the year also affect the intervals.

Your FRIGOBLOCK service partners will be glad to discuss this with you. For detailed information on maintenance such as maintenance intervals and maintenance items, see the FRIGOBLOCK customer service check-book.

Transport quality is the most critical point in food transportation. The correct and safe handling of refrigeration machines and the related functions of the truck body are fundamental preconditions for this. For this, we have compiled important information on how you should operate your refrigeration machine properly before and during transports, on general care and cleaning of the refrigeration machine and the prescribed hygiene maintenance and leak test.

The information on transport refrigeration are available for download here and can be used for drivers instructing drivers and as course material.
